Following the rumors of recent days, it has been officially confirmed that actors from independent films will be able to participate in the promotion of their films on the Lido. Movie ferrari, Dog Man, Priscilla, Promised Land AND Memory they actually got one temporary waiver of strike SAG-AFTRA because these are independent works that were not produced by members of AMPTP, an association of producers with which there are difficult negotiations.
So, Adam Driver, Caleb Landry Jones, Jessica Chastain, Mads Mikkelsen to attend Venice Film Festival scheduled from 30 August to 9 September 2023.
As the union confirmed, projects included in the Interim Agreement will be able to participate in promotional activities during major festivals scheduled for the coming monthssuch as the Venice International Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
WHAT IS THE INTERIM AGREEMENT
An interim agreement is a special delegation, assessed by the union on a case-by-case basis, which allows for independent proceedings. (and thus not part of Amptp) work during a strike. According to Sag-Aftra, this tool “helps the union achieve its goal of putting pressure on Amptp while demonstrating the soundness of our proposals,” the official statement says. In fact, the Interim Agreement contains the terms and conditions proposed by Amptp during the negotiations to extend the collective agreement. This tool has already been used during other strikes, notably in 1960 and 1980 (to renew television and theater contracts) and in 2000 (to renew contracts with 4A, the American Association of Advertising Agencies).
