“Venice 80”: “Green Frontier” wins CinemaSarà Colternale Award 2023, special mention for “Evil Does Not Exist”

Green border (Zielona granica), a film by Polish director Agnieszka Holland, received an accompanying award. KinoSara 2023.

Cineteca Milano reports that a jury of five very young people has gathered to give their opinion on the films participating in the Competition as part of Venice 80 announced Agnieszka Holland’s film as the winner with the following motivation:

For daring to expose the hypocrisy of the refugee system at Europe’s borders and to make us experience first-hand, in a raw and realistic manner, the horror and cruelty of those who act in the name of nationalism.

Aku Wa Sonzai Shinai (Evil Does Not Exist) Ryusuke Hamaguchi

The jury also awarded the film a special mention. Aku Wa Sonzai Sinai (“Evil Does Not Exist”) directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi with the following motivation:

For the ability to ask oneself questions in a significant style about the relationship between man and the mysterious and unpredictable nature.

The aim of the award is to identify, in the Venice 80 Competition section, the film that best interprets the ten acts of the CinemaSarà 2023 Decalogue, developed within the project “Beyond the Light”, created in collaboration with the EOS Edison Orizzonte Sociale ETS Foundation and AFIC. Association of Italian Film Festivals.

The jury will present the winning film with a dish created especially for the Award and signed by Fornasett.

Jury Cinemasarà 2023

The project “CinemaSarà – 10 actions to save cinema” was born during the 14th Piccolo Grande Film Festival (November 4-6, 2021), conceived by Silvia Pareti and created by Cineteca Milano, with the aim of attracting young audiences to rethink together the way of making and enjoying cinema them after the changes that have occurred in the habits of viewers of all ages.

In 2022, the path of meetings and proposals for the cinema of the “future” between students, delegates and experts from the world of cinema culminated in the development and presentation of the first CinemaSarà Decalogue and, finally, its presentation by Alberto Barber, Director of the Venice International Film Festival.

This year CinemaSarà gave life to the Forum, which took place from March 30 to April 1, 2023 in Milan at Fabbrica del Vapore, Cineteca Milano Arlecchino and Cineteca Milano MIC, conceived and organized by Silvia Pareti of Cineteca Milano, created within the Project “Behind the Light” financed by the National Image Education Plan for Schools, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit with the support of the EOS Edison Orizzonte Sociale Foundation, the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region.

Three days of painstaking discussions, accompanied by events also open to the public, led to the development and publication of the new Decalogue 2023, presented as a preview at Venice 80.
