Michael Mann presents his new feature film Ferrari in competition at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. Produced by Moto Pictures, it features a rich cast: Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gadon, Gabrielle Leone, Jack O’Connell, Patrick Dempsey. The film is dedicated to the life of Enzo Ferrari, the famous entrepreneur and founder of the car manufacturer of the same name, where he allows us to relive the most important and difficult moments of the formation of the Ferrari brand. A series of captivating and at the same time dramatic scenes that keep the viewer chained to the screen.
Summer 1957. Behind the F1 show, former racing driver Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy loomed over the business he and his wife, Laura, built from scratch ten years earlier. Their marriage is cracked by the loss of their only son, Dino. Ferrari is struggling to acknowledge another one that happened to Lina Lardy. Meanwhile, the riders’ passion for victory pushes them to the limit as they embark on a dangerous race that crosses all of Italy: the Mille Miglia.
The director comments: “Long before the shooting of Ferrari, I had the opportunity to walk around the rooms of Enzo’s house, see his diaries, learn about his habits, admire the wallpaper in the bedroom where Laura spent the last years of her life, asking questions from her doctor, meeting Lina’s niece, understanding his lifestyle and his modernity, sitting in Enzo’s barber chair, walking the sidewalks of his neighborhood and living there, exploring the shiny mechanical parts of Lampredi’s V12 engine and sculptures of 1950s racing models, and most importantly, interacting with Enzo’s son Piero, from which I learned and absorbed a lot. I tried to revive Enzo’s passion and charm, his sharp wit, the devastating loss of his son, the theatrical impulses, the need for emotional refuge, the tragedy, the monumental bet on a single race and the struggle for survival. : all the elements that collided in the four months of 1957.”
