San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has been compared to one of the game’s greatest players.
The 19-year-old Frenchman was outstanding in the Spurs’ 120-104 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday.
Wembanya played 23 minutes and scored a team-high 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The 7-foot-4 forward/center became famous for his spectacular dunk on Heat center Thomas Bryant, which even left the NBA champion looking stunned.
“His face was like ‘How do you stop this?'” one fan commented on X (formerly Twitter).
Another asked: “I mean how do you save this? Lift the rim?”
A third simply called Wembanyama a “cheat code.”
Many comments also compared Bunyama’s dunk to Michael Jordan’s.
More specifically, it’s one of Jordan’s dunks in the 1996 movie “Space Jam” when his arm reaches for the rim and two characters try to stop him.
“Life imitates art,” one fan joked in response.
In contrast, aAnother fan drew a more realistic comparison to Wembanya, asking: “Is he the closest player we’ve ever seen to Wilt (Chamberlain)?”
Whether Wembanya becomes the next Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, or becomes a legend in his own right, the hype train surrounding the French phenom shows no sign of slowing down.
Fortunately, Wembunyama has likely become accustomed to this incredible pressure over the past few years, having been promoted as a generational talent.
A three-time LNB Pro A Young Player of the Year, Wembanyama is also the reigning Pro A MVP, Pro A top scorer and Pro A top defender.
The Spurs have two games against the Spurs next houston rockets October 16-18, with the preseason finale against the Golden State Warriors on October 20.
