Watch Beyoncé Say “Trans Is Beautiful” During Her Renaissance Tour Show

Beyoncé masterpiece, RENAISSANCE, is partly a love letter to the subcultures pioneered by black trans women. And on tour last week, she openly welcomed the trans community, much to the delight of a lucky fan.

Candice Persuasian, a trance drag artist, posted on TikTok a footage from the singer’s concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last Sunday. In the video, which appears to have been taken at the end of the show, Beyoncé is shown wearing a long, sparkly dress suspended from a harness. As she floats above the crowd thanking the audience, she notices a poster Persuasian is holding and reads it while saying “Trance is beautiful” into the microphone.

In the caption, Persuasian wrote: “BEYONCE READ MY SIGN! Thank you Queen for creating safe spaces for queer and transgender people!”

Persuasian also told LGBT+ outlet PinkNews that the moment Beyoncé spotted her sign “with her 40/20 vision” was “so special to me because I’m a trans drag artist who is constantly inspired by Beyoncé.”

“But I knew this moment was more important than me, it was part of the trans community for everyone,” she told the publication. “Beyoncé really sees us and wants us to be celebrated!”

The transvestite also talked about the personal importance of the moment on Instagram. In a Beyonce-inspired drag post, Persuasian wrote that 10 years ago, she “couldn’t afford to see her in concert, so I never thought I’d see her in the front row tonight at the Renaissance Club.” Persuasian was also featured on Shop Beyoncé’s Instagram page in the evening’s exclusive merchandise, showing off a free t-shirt she received at the show.

Given the current scale of hatred against LGBTQ+ people, especially trans women, even a little praise for transgender people on one of the most talked about tours of all time matters. And just last week, Beyoncé briefly updated her website to pay tribute to O’Shea Sibley, who was murdered after falling to her music at a gas station in Brooklyn. To this we say bravo.
