Welcome back to Temptation Island, but why haven’t we seen each other again?

“You’re going to stand there and listen to me cry, but that’s okay, because I love the way you lie to me.” There are no words more true than those sung by Rihanna in “Love the Way You Lie.” The quintessential theme song of the summer for lovers of “Temptation Island,” one of their many hit songs, for those few poor clueless fools. The Journey of the Feelings is back in Sardinia, with engaged couples joining in and understanding a little more about their relationships in crisis. Love that isn’t love, unshared future plans, unspoken betrayals.

Temptation is probably the last great cult summer product left on Italian TV and we bet its absence has been felt by many of you on sultry evenings and not a little. And so the return of Filippo Bisciglia as Cicero dell’Amore, with The Two Meters, is a breath of fresh air that we look forward to reliving. Also the return of Pinettu and the famous words: the bonfire of comparison. Everything is there. There are characters, there are human limitations, there are (unfortunately) toxic relationship traits, and there are memes. What nonsense, some people will still say. But none. Beyond the editing and music, beyond the writers’ skill at crafting a perfect mix – how many of you have sung to the sound of Anna Tatangelo’s “Bastardo”? – Well, there’s more.

In the human case there is much more told than this, which is a real dive into the reality that surrounds us. Will it be imaginary? Sure. But all this, sometimes unfortunately, is absolutely true. This is a case of the “American boy” who secretly goes on dating sites or for bread that the girl herself cannot buy. Or for the tram driver who lives on the outskirts of Milan and his girlfriend who wants a different standard of living. These things are all around us and perhaps even speak about us, which awakens those who experience similar situations in their lives. Nothing to replace medical attention (which probably will be helpful), mind you, but it’s a useful warning. This is probably why the Temptations are so popular today – yesterday their number (including ours) was three and a half million (26.1%).
