Ed Sheeran’s new collaboration is here, and it’s unlike anything he’s ever done before. Sheeran has teamed up with John Mayer to release his very first G-Shock watch with Hodinkee, a Grammy winner announced on Instagram last week.
The G-SHOCK Ref.6900 – Subtract by Ed Sheeran ($185), releasing on Wednesday (October 18), features a bright yellow colorway with black accents around the strap and bezel. Design inspired by Sheeran’s sixth studio album – (Subtract), which was released in May.
Fans may have noticed the watch earlier. Sheeran revealed that he has been wearing the limited edition watch for the past few months.
“Excited to unveil my first watch with @hodinkee,” he captioned an Instagram post showing off the watch. “If you’ve noticed a yellow G Shock on me in the last 6 months, this is it! About a year ago I got a call from @johnmayer asking if I wanted to do a G Shock with them and I couldn’t say yes fast enough. (I’ve) loved watches for as long as I can remember but never thought about making my own, but this is the perfect way to start. Head over to the Hodinkee store for more information on them and I hope you enjoy wearing them as much as I do.”
Sheeran’s watch is the first in a three-part collaboration curated by Mayer. The remaining two artist collaborations have not yet been revealed.
“Ed Sheeran has been a friend of mine for a long time,” Mayer said in a statement on Hodinkee’s website. “As fellow musicians and watch collectors, we were united by our love for things that take time. G-Shock Ref.6900 – Subtract – bright, bold and completely Ed Sheeran style.”
The partnership with Sheeran continues Mayer’s successful collaboration with Hodinkee. Mayer previously teamed up with Hodinkie to create a sold-out collection of Casio G-Shock 6900 watches that came in blue, creamy white and black.
