As the global incidence of influenza cases has declined during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has returned to levels similar to those previously recorded in 2020 due to preventive measures such as the use of masks, disinfection of hands and surfaces. The exhibition issued a second alert to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The organization also called for vaccinations to protect against the disease, especially among high-risk groups, noting that as flu season spreads to the northern hemisphere, “hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19 continue to increase.”
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned: “The spread of viruses such as influenza, COVID-19 or respiratory syncytial virus could cause serious problems for health systems.”
Therefore, “the World Health Organization recommends vaccination against influenza and Covid-19, especially for high-risk groups” such as health professionals, older adults or people with certain chronic conditions.
Responders will point out that, despite having entered the worst phase of the pandemic, there is a need to ensure that measures are taken to avoid a significant increase in hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19, which we can blame on the health service.
