Why AEW’s Swerve Strickland Thinks He’s Similar to Marvel’s Assassin

Swerve Strickland has been involved in a feud with “The Executioner” Adam Page as of late, with the former picking up a win over The Elite member at AEW WrestleDream. The rivalry has left Strickland firmly in the heel position, but he believes some fans enjoy his character and root for him.

Speaking to Grapsody, Strickland compared Killmonger, the Marvel villain played by Michael B. Jordan in Black Panther. Jordan’s Vankandan rebel isn’t exactly a good guy per se, but he’s gained some support among superhero movie fans. Likewise, Strickland does bad things and polarizes the AWACS base.

“I give them a different feeling… I see myself almost as Killmonger. You know he does some bad things in the film, but you will gravitate towards him or be horrified by him, his actions. just a feeling”.

Strickland also praised AEW and the company’s creative process and movement over the past month or so. He believes progress is moving in the right direction and is happy to contribute. Moreover, he also believes that fans have grown to love his faction, Mogul Embassy.

“I see a lot of fans relate to what I do, relate to the band, relate to (Prince) Nana, relate to Brian Cage.”
