“Why didn’t you go to jail”

It’s been over a year since the infamous 2022 Oscars night, when Will Smith he slapped Chris Rock after a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith (details here). However, this point still remains controversial. Sean Penn actually, he sat down to talk with Diversity and expressed his opinion about what happened.

I don’t know Will Smith. “I met him once,” the actor said. When I met him, I thought he was very nice; he was damn good in King Richard. So why the hell did you spit on yourself and everyone else with this stupid thing? Why the hell was I put in jail for doing the same thing as you? And you’re still sitting there? Why are you standing there applauding his worst moment as a person?

In 1987 Sean Penn was sentenced to 60 days in prison for punching and spitting at a crowd on the set of Colors: War Paint. The actor served 33 days of his sentence, and then was involved in other episodes of aggression: in 2010, he was sentenced to three years probation and 300 hours of community service for attacking a photographer.

Penn at the same time, he is still furious that the Academy refused the Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky, his friend and the subject of his documentary about the war in Ukraine. Superpowerwill appear on the TV show in both 2022 and 2023. The actor claims that the slap would never have happened in the presence of the Ukrainian president.

Such nonsense would not have happened with Zelensky,” the actor said. Will Smith would never leave this chair to take part in stupid violence. This would never happen.
