Two movies for one

The film adaptation promises to be a sprawling experience, which will develop over course of two films which will be released in theaters respectively at December 2024 and 2025. Chu announced the decision to split it into two films last year, explaining that the extra length is needed to expand the original musical’s narrative without cutting the much-loved songs. “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just a movie by Wickedbut two!” Chu wrote in a 2022 Instagram post announcing the decision. “With more space, we can tell the story as it needs to be told, adding even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.”
