Zombieland 3 gives the cast and crew the opportunity to explore the possibility of returning for another sequel.
Zombieland revolves around a college student who survives a zombie apocalypse by following a strict set of rules. Along the way, he meets three strangers who eventually become his family in the frantic world of the undead.
Movie features a core ensemble led by Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. The first film follows the cross-country journey of four survivors trying to find a new home.
In its sequel entitled Zombieland: Double TapThe main survivors face other factions and evolved zombies in search of their own.
Zombieland The premiere took place in cinemas on October 2, 2009, and Double tap released October 18, 2019.
Is Zombieland 3 in development?
There is no official word yet if Zombieland 3 in the plans, but interviews with actors and the director may shed some light on the possibility of watching a threequel.
It took a decade to Zombieland: Double Tap to hit theaters, and it seems like director Ruben Fleischer wants to keep that tradition alive for the sequel.
In a conversation with Talking Film in February 2022, Fleischer expressed interest in returning to Zombieland 3hinting that it could be released sometime in 2029:
“We joked that this should happen every 10 years, because the second film was 10 years, almost to the day, of the first. I like the idea that maybe in 2029 we’ll be back in that world with those people, which would certainly be fun to see. Do you know what they do for so much time?”
The director then stated that Emma Stone, who plays Wichita in the films, was the one who “suggested doing one of these every 10 years.”
In conclusion, Fleischer noted that a threequel can be made as long as “there is a desire” and the cast is ready to return:
“Emma (Stone) was the one who suggested doing it every 10 years. She joked that we could literally do this forever because Woody (Harrelson) will outlive us all. Since he’s vegan, he’ll be there.” longer than any of us(laughs). So as long as the desire is there and the actors are willing to do it, I mean it’s the greatest experience of my career. I’d love to reunite with these guys.”
Woody Harrelson later echoed Fleischer’s feelings about returning to Zombieland 3.
In a September 2021 interview with Screen Rant, Harrelson said he “open” come back because he loves the cast and crew:
“I haven’t heard anything about this from many creative people. I would love to do that because I just love these guys. This whole group really… They’re an extraordinarily wonderful, funny, amazingly funny group of people.” I want to say that I’m open to it. And Ash, if there is anything you can do to make this happen, I would be very grateful.”
Zombieland newcomer Zoey Deutch, who plays Madison in Double tapalso mentioned her desire to return for a third film in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter in July 2022:
“I would really like to wear the Von Deutsch suit again, because there’s no better pun. The experience was so funny that I begged Ruben (Fleischer) to put me in his film again. But yes, I would love to play Madison again. She has such a character.”
Aside from the cast and director’s enthusiasm for a potential comeback, the financial success also looks good if Columbia Pictures decides to make another film in Zombieland franchise.
2009s Zombieland earned 102.3 million worldwide against a budget of $24 million. Meanwhile, Zombieland: Double Tap grossed $122 million.

What could happen in Zombieland 3?
There are many ways to continue the story. Zombieland 3 since the main group of characters were still alive by the end of the sequel.

In an interview with MovieWeb in October 2019, the director said that other parts of the world could be explored. “breathtaking” For Zombieland 3and he even mentioned Hawaii and Turks and Caicos as potential new locations:
“One of the ideas that was brought up that I thought would be cool is to see what’s happening in other parts of the world, and that would be interesting to me. Let’s pretend the movie starts with them all getting out of a boat, landing somewhere, and seeing what’s happening. this is the type. You know, just don’t shoot me again in Atlanta. Hawaii sounds beautiful this time of year…February nights in Atlanta are very cold. I wouldn’t be forced to see what was happening in Turks and Caicos. That they had a zombie virus.”
Having seen the four main Zombieland Surviving Elsewhere opens up exciting new storytelling possibilities.
At the end Double tapNevada Rosario Dawson has joined the group as Tallahassee’s (Harrelson) new love interest, meaning only Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) doesn’t have a romantic partner.
It’s entirely possible that Little Rock will be desperate to find love and jealous of the fact that her sister and her friends have already found love.
Instead of fleeing again, Little Rock could have convinced the group to find a new home, perhaps in a new country outside the United States. This would fulfill Fleischer’s desire to explore other parts of the world while maintaining the core cast.
