Paramount+ subscribers may have good reason to be disappointed in the streamer. If you look at Paramount+’s slate of new releases this month, you’ll find that many of the best films are being transferred to a higher tier: Paramount+ with Showtime. It’s simply not fair to loyal subscribers, which is why our monthly list of three underrated films on Paramount+ was chosen specifically from films available at all tiers.
In this month’s selection, we chose an adaptation of the popular Broadway musical from the creator Hamilton, one of Martin Scorsese’s latest films and a period drama that features many familiar faces. These are three underrated films on Paramount+ that you need to watch this October.
On top (2021)
What Makes Warner Bros.’ Big 2021 Musical? on Paramount+? These corporate streaming deals are always confusing, but you don’t care when you sing along On high, the hit musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara AlegrÃa Hudes. In the film adaptation, Anthony Ramos plays Usnavi de la Vega, a bodega owner who is given the opportunity to take over his late father’s business in the Dominican Republic. Yet Usnavi is tempted to stay in Washington Heights because he is in love with Vanessa (Scream VIMelissa Barrera).
Meanwhile, Nina Rosario (Leslie Grace) is home from college and doesn’t want to go back, despite her father Kevin’s (Jimmy Smits) dreams. However, the longer Nina stays in the neighborhood, the more she realizes that she needs to finish what she started. First, Nina will also have to deal with her relationship with Benny (Corey Hawkins). And they all have to come together when the area needs them.

Silence (2016)
Martin Scorsese has starred in so many crime epics that it’s easy to forget that he also explores religion in some of his films. Silence The story is set in 17th century Japan, where Christian converts were forced to hide or deny their faith under threat of torture or even death. A Jesuit priest named Cristovao Ferreira (Liam Neeson) is forced to personally witness the execution of Christians in Japan. Several years later, it becomes known that Ferreira has renounced his faith, forcing his students, Sebastian Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Francisco Garupe (Adam Driver), to travel to Japan to find out if this is true.
However, conditions in Japan are so tense that their guide Kichijiro (Yosuke Kubozuka) has to help the priests hide from the authorities. In any case, the priests cannot hide forever. And both men’s faith will be sorely tested during the trials. Even if their faith survives, they may not survive.

Duchess (2008)
Keira Knightley seems to have quite a few historical dramas under her belt, and Duchess puts her back at the center of a complex novel. This film is based on the true story of Georgiana Cavendish (Keira Knightley), Duchess of Devonshire and ancestor of the late Princess Diana of Wales.
In this film, Georgiana marries Duke William Cavendish (Ralph Fiennes) in the hopes that they will have a lasting union. But Georgiana’s hopes are dashed when the Duke begins an affair with her best friend, Lady Elizabeth “Bess” Foster (Hayley Atwell). This leads to Georgiana having her own affair with Charles Gray (Dominic Cooper), which her husband refuses to tolerate. If Georgiana refuses to give up her love for Charles, she could lose everything she holds dear.
