Set in Ancient Polynesia, it follows the character Moana as she attempts to return a mystical stone to the goddess Te Fiti in order to save her village from a terrible plague. In the original film, Moana was voiced by Aulii Cravalho and Johnson played Maui, the demigod responsible for stealing the artifact known as Te Fiti’s Heart.

In addition to the cast selection, the Moana fan-made trailer includes sounds from the animated film, as well as clips depicting wide waters and Motunui Island.
What could a Moana live action movie be like?
Last April, it was announced that a live-action film, Moana, would be made, in which Johnson would return to play Maui. Confirming the news, the actor revealed that it will include many elements from the original film, including Heihei, Pua, and other characters. Considering how popular his songs have become, especially “How Far I’ll Go” and “Welcome”, it’s interesting to wonder if new music will be added like in previous Disney remakes.
As for the casting of the actress to play Moana, Cravalho will not be reprising her role, fueling rumors of a possible lead role in the film. Although Zendaya was featured in this trailer and mentioned in fan discussions, the studio may also choose to cast a lesser-known talent. However, due to delays/cancellations caused by the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, it may be some time before new updates become available.
It will be interesting to see who else will officially join the cast of the film and who will get the lead role. Those who love Moana probably want to know this as soon as possible.
