A month and a half later, they’re reporting the death toll from COVID-19 again

After a month and a half, Cochabamba again reported yesterday two deaths from Covid-19.

Rubén Castillo, head of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health (headquarters), reported yesterday that the deaths from Covid-19 were a 4-year-old boy and a 58-year-old woman.

“As far as Covid-19 is concerned, last week we had 78 notifications of confirmed cases, an increase of 21 cases from the previous week, with an average of 11 cases registered per day, an increase of 37 percent,” he explained.

Castillo mentioned that the reported cases indicate that the sector has gone beyond safety limits, so exhaustive surveillance will be carried out in the coming weeks to monitor the behavior of the disease.

The head of epidemiology reported that there were reports of deaths from pneumonia in children under two months old last week, with an increase in acute respiratory infections.

“We had 399 cases of pneumonia, 43% of which occurred in children under the age of five,” he added.

To date, seven children have been admitted to the Manual Ascencio Villarroel Pediatric Hospital with respiratory symptoms, he explained. Two of them were in intensive care with pneumonia, he said.

“Compared to the previous week, there were a thousand more cases of acute respiratory infections. We reported 15,624 confirmed cases, an increase of 6 percent.”
