Ali Krieger Enters ‘Beyoncé’s Lemonade Era’ Amid Ashlyn Harris’ Divorce

Ali Krieger apparently feels the same way Beyoncé did when she released her emotional 2016 album “Lemonade.”

The New Jersey/New York Gotham star, 39, who is in the process of divorcing her fellow professional soccer player wife Ashlyn Harris, 38, took to Instagram on Oct. 19 to mention an infidelity-themed album.

“Getting ready for the playoffs in the age of Beyoncé’s Lemonade,” Ali Krieger wrote alongside photos of herself kicking a soccer ball on the field.

Lemonade, Beyoncé’s sixth studio album, is considered a musical triumph. The lyrics compare race and gender politics, as well as the consequences of infidelity in relationships. The lyrics chronicle a woman’s experience of being cheated on, and the album moves through suspicion, anger and determination, culminating in the forgiveness song “All Night,” NBC News reported in 2016.

Although it was initially unclear whether Beyoncé was singing about herself or a fictional character, her husband Jay-Z later admitted to infidelity in a 2017 interview with the New York Times.

Since then, “Lemonade” has become synonymous in pop culture with retribution and self-recovery, as seen in moments like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s memorable Titus Andromedon parody of “Hold Up” performed after a breakup.

TODAY.com has reached out to reps for Ali Krieger and Harris for comment on the post and their divorce.

Many of the athlete’s friends and family expressed their support for her in the comments to her post, with some directly referencing songs from Lemonade.

The athlete’s brother, social media star Kyle Krieger, wrote: “Love you and so proud of you!! These hoes are not loyal!! But I’m your fans too.”

Kyle Krieger also posted a GIF of Beyonce in the yellow dress from the “Hold Up” video, as well as lyrics from “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” one of the edgiest songs on Lemonade.

“This is your last warning, you know that I give you life. If you try this shit again, you’ll lose your wife,” commented Kyle Krieger.

The official Instagram account of the NJ/NY Gotham FC team also commented on the lyrics of Beyoncé’s song.

“Oh, you’ll never recreate it,” the team wrote in the comments, adding a blow-kiss emoji.

Soccer professional Alex Morgan, who played alongside Ali Krieger and Harris on the U.S. Women’s National Team, noted the many messages of support, writing, “These comments don’t disappoint.”

USWNT star Sophia Smith, a standout at the 2023 World Cup, responded by writing “energyyyyy” and adding a confused face emoji.

Harris filed for divorce from Ali Krieger last month after nearly four years of marriage, according to a petition filed with the Seminole County Clerk’s Office in Florida, obtained by NBC News.

The couple, who married in December 2019, have two children: two-year-old daughter Sloane and one-year-old son Ocean.

The couple met as USWNT teammates in 2010 and announced their engagement in March 2019.

“We became really close friends and just hung out and talked and had so much in common,” Harris told People magazine after the couple announced their plans to get married.

“We would always sit next to each other on the bus and on flights and just talk about our dreams and hopes and what we wanted to do one day when we grew up. Because at that time we were children,” she added.

Ali Krieger’s “Lemonade Era” post comes just days after Gotham clinched the No. 6 seed in the National Women’s Soccer League playoffs following a 2-2 draw with Kansas City Current on Oct. 15.

The team is scheduled to take on the North Carolina Courage on October 22.

Gotham’s playoff bid also extended Ali Krieger’s retirement tour. She announced earlier this season that she would retire from professional football at the end of the 2023 season.
