The Junta of Castile and León today started a vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 in Soria. Next Tuesday, the 10th, vaccination will be conducted for the general population among those recommended for vaccination.

? The main innovation of the campaign is the vaccination of children aged 6 to 59 months against influenza.
? During autumn and winter, babies born in October will also receive bronchiolitis immunization in hospitals, while babies born from March to October are vaccinated in health centers.
Vaccination
For those housed in residential settings, vaccinations are administered by health professionals who will visit the facilities to receive both vaccines. Their presence will be used to vaccinate the professionals working there.
Health and social hygiene staff will be able to receive both vaccines in the workplace by referring to occupational health services. For the remaining groups 60 and older and those under 60 with risk factors, each health district determines where vaccinations are available and how to make appointments based on social, demographic and health status, among other things.

Usage and investment
During the 2023-2024 vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health has purchased 805,500 doses of influenza vaccine, of which an initial 34,156 doses will be shipped to Soria, and the quantity will be expanded if necessary. Total expenditure was €10,527,058, which included a new intranasal vaccine for children aged 24 to 59 months.
Regarding the flu, the campaign will target those who are at higher risk of developing complications from the flu, as well as those who may be at higher risk of transmitting the flu to other complications.
The aim of Covid-19 vaccination is to increase the protection of the most vulnerable people and health and social care staff, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality and the impact of the disease on care capacity.
Balance of 2022 Flu Campaign
Castile and Leon’s 2022 campaign against influenza shows that 3 out of 10 people in this community have been vaccinated, with 720,492 vaccinated citizens.
In Soria, the total number of people immunized last season was: Soria, 28,572 people (32.05%), the third highest proportion, after Zamora (34.71%) and Avila (33.85%).
bronchiolitis immunity
Another novelty in the immunization calendar of Castilla and León is the inclusion of a new drug (Nirsevimab) that provides immunity against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), an infection with the usual Said bronchiolitis.
As the immunization program ramps up, Castile and León will offer a single dose of niselumab to all children born between March 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024, during the 2023-2024 campaign.
This immunization against bronchiolitis has purchased 13,000 doses (500 of which were shipped to Soria) at a cost of 2,825,680 euros.
Other data
Flu and Covid-19 vaccinations are recommended for:
? Persons 60 years of age or older.
? Persons 5 years of age or older in disability centers and nursing homes, as well as other long-term residents and residents of closed institutions.
? In addition to the above, it is recommended that the following groups of people receive influenza vaccination:
? Population of children aged 6 to 59 months. This is a novelty in the immunization calendar of Castilla and León. Children 6 to 23 months will receive the vaccine intramuscularly, and children 24 to 59 months will receive the vaccine intranasally.
? Education center staff at any educational level.
? People between the ages of 5 and 59 are at higher risk for complications from the flu. This group includes smokers.
? Students undertake internships at the Center for Health and Social Care.
? People who work on a farm, poultry farm, pig farm or mink farm or come into contact with wild animals.
Covid-19 vaccine
The Covid-19 vaccine for the 2023-2024 season is a monovalent vaccine against the XBB.1.5 subvariant of the omicron strain, preferably XBB.1.5, which ensures protection against circulating strains of SARS-CoV -2.
Until the last week of October, Castile and Leon will receive just over 400,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from the Ministry of Health. These vaccines are administered weekly. So far, nearly 26,000 doses of the vaccine have arrived at the Territorial Health Service.
