On November 27, 2024 we will be able to see it at the cinema Wicked, the film adaptation of the famous Broadway blockbuster musical. One of the protagonists, interpreter of the Good Witch Glinda, will be Ariana Grande who, by obtaining this role, has realized one of her greatest dreams. As a fan of the theatrical version, she had repeatedly stated that she would be willing to do anything to be able to get a part: «I would wait for the producers outside the studios every morning with a coffee, begging them at least to let me sing Defying gravity for them”. In the end, she prevailed, beating off the competition from her other colleagues, such as Dove Cameron or Amanda Seyfreid.
Filming began in December 2022 and is still continuing because two films have been planned. Until a few days ago, the images from the set were absolutely top secret, but Entertainment Tonight published a short video where you can see the interpreter of Thank you, Next sing No one mourns the wickedopening piece of the musical, while she is suspended, in a fluffy pink dress, over a village. Other small previews came from Grande’s Instagram page, but also from those of the other protagonist, Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, the wicked witch of the West.

The plot will follow in all respects that staged on Broadway: it is a prequel to the events narrated in Wizard of Oz and explains first the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda and then how the two became enemies. Around their relationship, other stories and characters also develop: there will also be Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Ethan Slater (Boq) and, for fans of BridgertonJonathan Baley (Boq) will also be there.
Finally, the direction was entrusted to Jon M. Chu, behind the camera already for Step Up And Dreaming of New Yorkwhile the screenwriters are Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz who have already edited the theatrical script which, in recent years, has garnered awards.
