A sea lion was seen today on the shores of the upper campus of Rosales in Buenos Aires, a precautionary measure for the area in view of a possible bird flu situation.
The specimen was found in part of Punta Alta Beach, in the Argentine Navy-administered Batrias region, near the town of Punta Alta.
“When notified, a protocol and precautions for personnel have been developed and are being worked on with other organizations,” a Navy source said Wednesday.
They added: “The sea lion was on the shore, a fisherman filmed it and a video went viral on social media, so an intervention was taken.”
As already mentioned, within the framework of the measures provided, access to Punta Alta is closed preventively.
For their part, Senasa advises against handling dead animals or animals with suspicious symptoms. Producers, institutions, and the public are reminded that they must report if high mortality, neurological, digestive, and/or respiratory symptoms in susceptible species are found in wild birds or in commercial or backyard poultry.
It is also advised not to travel to poultry farms or wildlife habitats after exposure to dead or symptomatic animals.
According to Senasa Resolution No. 153/2021, avian influenza is a notifiable disease in our country and anyone who observes dead, neurological, digestive and/or respiratory symptoms in wild or domestic poultry can notify the agency.
