Cali is the city with the highest number of HIV and hepatitis B cases, according to MinJusticia Osuna

On Friday, October 6 this year, Justice Minister Néstor Osuna assured that the city of Cali will be prioritized in the drug policy promoted by the government of President Gustavo Petro.

This measure was taken because the capital of Valle del Cauca department has the highest number of HIV and hepatitis B cases in the country linked to the consumption of these substances.

“Cali is the city with the highest correlation between problematic drug use and HIV infection and hepatitis infection nationwide; this is a priority for us because they are potentially fatal diseases,” Secretary Osuna said.

During this visit, Nestor Osuna spoke with different people in the community, explaining to them that the anti-drug policy pursued by the national government aims to unite the country’s efforts and address the weakest link in the drug trafficking chain, consumption By.

The purpose of sharing with you today is to share the news that the drug policy being implemented by the government has a strategy on the public health of drug users, and we hope that this strategy is correct. This public health strategy includes psychosocial support, medical support, assistance and information on work and family matters, as well as state support for homes such as those being completed in this community,” the Minister said during the visit.

Minister Osuna gave several examples of how the drug policy that will be implemented by the government will help consumers. “Simple things, but very necessary, such as whoever decides to inject heroin use a syringe that is never used and then throws it away. Things like asking for help in the event of an overdose and having naloxone on hand can prevent overdose death“, explain.

He added: “They have the potential to access medical care, tests, labs and support to understand what job opportunities are available to them.”

“To reduce consumption problems, we need more parks in communities, we need more jobs, we need more information, that is, the whole government acting together. That’s why this policy is very ambitious, ” Osuna added.
