New Delhi, November 4 (Prensa Latina) The air quality in the capital continued to be at severe levels today, with a dangerous layer of fog covering the entire region, a situation that Indian authorities described as worrying.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) detected pollution levels affecting the city at 440 in the early hours of Saturday, when the ideal health index is around 50.
At an emergency meeting the day before, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said the situation was alarming and reiterated the need for a long-term permanent action plan to mitigate the air pollution crisis.
Measures including temporarily halting construction, calling on people to stay home as much as possible and using public transport to reduce emissions were discussed during the meeting.
Other areas in the National Capital Region detected slightly lower pollution levels but were in the severe category, such as Noida at 429, Gurgaon at 425 and Faridabad at 457.
