It may not be the most famous “royal” couple in the world but now they have somehow earned history. Prince Gustav Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Of Denmark and his wife, the princess Carina (Axelssonwriter and former model), both 54 years old, will in fact be the first royal couple to give birth to an heir born of surrogacy. For the announcement, they did not choose the official channels, but an entertainment weekly, the “Billed Bladet”, who precisely revealed that “the couple is assisted by a surrogate mother”, who “is very happy and grateful for this opportunity” and who “thanks all those involved who have helped to find a legal path to follow”.

The statement from the spokesperson royal family also calls on the media to respect the privacy of the unborn child, abstaining from further questions on the pregnancy, and which however promises, at the same time, to provide more information on the subject in due course. There Queen Margrethe IItherefore, is preparing to welcome a relative into the family who will somehow make the lineage of the Danish royal family unique: the father, Gustav, is in fact the son of the princess Benediktethe younger sister of the sovereign.

The problem of succession

However, beyond the happy news, the type of motherhood could create problems within the royal family Of Copenhagen. Gustav inherited from his father, Prince Richard, the title of head of the House of Sayn-Wittgentein-Berleburg. Title that, upon his death, should pass to the oncoming son. But some relatives could object, disputing the “purity” of the line of descent. Also because, in the absence of other children (should the lineage be invalidated), the title would pass to Prince Richard’s younger brother, Prince Robin Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.

But that’s not all: because if it is true that Denmark allows surrogacy, the legislation of Germany, Gustav and Carina’s country of residence, forbids it. Which could complicate the whole situation even more.

VIP children

Beyond the succession problems, the Danish royal couple is certainly not the first VIP couple to welcome a child born of surrogate motherhood. Over United Statesmany big stars of Hollywood they started a family with the help of a surrogate mother, above all Sarah Jessica Parkerthe star of Sex & The Cityand about her husband Matthew Broderick. But her two youngest children were also born to a surrogate mother Kim Kardashian and the children of Jimmy Fallon, Tyra Banks, Ricky Martin And Paris Hiltonwho became a mother just last January of a child born to a surrogate mother.
