The South Carolina basketball team will host the Wofford Terriers on Wednesday night, and the in-state program will travel to Columbia for an exhibition game against the Gamecocks. Tickets are $10 (free for students) and all proceeds will be donated to the Maui Strong Fund to help support relief and rebuilding efforts after Maui’s devastating wildfires.
Gamecock basketball fans are excited for the chance to see their favorite teams take the field for the first time (minus the Garnet and Black Madness intrasquad scrimmages), but South Carolina basketball will be losing at least one of their most highly regarded franchise recruits .
Four-star freshman forward Colin Murray-Boyles, a top-100 national prospect, will not play against Wofford tonight and will be out “indefinitely.” Murray-Boyles of AC Flora Products has mononucleosis and will not be able to do any strenuous exercise for some time.
No timetable was given for CMB’s absence, as recovery from mononucleosis varies from person to person. Even after returning from his absence, the dynamic freshman will need some time to get into game shape. It was unclear how long he had missed rescue. I missed the scrimmage between Garnett and Blake due to illness.
However, other key contributors in the second year of the Lamont Paris era will play Wednesday night. Transfer forwards BJ Mack (from Wofford) and Stephen Clark (The Citadel) join as well as point guard Ta’Lon Cooper (Minnesota) and versatile wing Myles Stute (Vanderbilt).
Murray-Boyles is joined by fellow freshmen Alden Conyers (Columbia), Maurice Ugousuk (high school teammate of 2024 commit Okur Federico) and Austin Herro (Tyler Herro’s brother) is not expected to play a significant role in the 2023-2024 version of the game.
