With the arrival of the film in theaters around the world Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone one of the most famous and most successful fantasy sagas ever came to life. It is 2001 when viewers are led to the discovery of Hogwarts and the magical world of wizards. A world born from the pen of JK Rowling and which over the years has gained more and more fans all over the world for its themes related to growth, friendship and courage. In 2011, after exactly ten years, the journey comes to an end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (here the review), again directed by David Yates and based as always on the novel of the same name.
The film actually adapts the last chapters of the novel written by Rowling, as the events of the first ones were told in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (here the review). This was done in such a way as to be able to include as many events from the book as possible, without risking leaving out important aspects of the story. Fans, in fact, had complained about the previous films an excessive lack of fundamental details for the development of the story. In any case, just the large amount of events and emotions present in this eighth chapter have decreed its success.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 it is in fact the film of the saga with the highest grossing. More than ten years after its release, it is also still one of the most popular of all eight, the subject of continuous visions, analyzes and insights. Before embarking on a vision of the film, however, it will certainly be useful to delve into some of the main curiosities related to it. The plot and the cast of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2
The events pick up where those of the previous film ended. After leaving the Hogwarts school of magic, now occupied by Death Eaters, Harry Potter continues the desperate search for Horcruxes to be able to weaken Lord Voldemort. With Ron and Hermione, the young wizard manages to identify the last ones left to be destroyed, realizing however that he cannot stay away from Hogwarts much longer. It is there that the final confrontation between the forces of good and evil, represented by Voldemort and his army, must take place. Before that, however, some last mysteries will have to be revealed, without the solution of which there can be no conclusion.
The protagonist of the film is the actor Daniel Radcliffe, who once again fills the role of Harry Potter with great success. They then meet next to him Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, ed Emma Watson in those of Hermione Granger. The Oscar-winning actress Maggie Smith plays Professor McGonagall again, while Robbie Coltrane obviously returns to fill the role of Hagrid. Evanna Lynch resumes the role of the extravagant Luna Lovegood, while Bonnie Wright, James And Oliver Phelps they play Ginny, Fred and George Weasley, respectively. David Thewlis returns to play Remus Lupin, while Michael Gambon appears briefly one last time in the role of Dumbledore.
Lord Voldemort is played by the great actor Ralph FiennesWhile Helena Bonham Carter plays Bellatrix Lestrange. Among the most famous characters in the saga, Severus Snape is played by the great Alan RickmanWhile Tom Felton returns as Draco Malfoy. The father of these, Lucius, is instead played by Jason Isaacswhile his mother Narcissa is played by Helen McCrory. Finally, they are also part of the cast Warwick Davis in the double role of Unci-Unci and Filius Flitwick, Ciaran Hinds in those of Aberforth Dumbledore and John Hurt as Garrick Ollivander. The latter returns to play the character after nine years.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2: the differences between the book and the film
To try to stay as faithful as possible to the novel, the authors decided to adapt it into two films. Despite that, several scenes and situations have also undergone changes. One of the most important is that relating to relationship between Voldemort and Harry Potter. The connection between their minds is in fact less exploited in the film than described in the book, where the protagonist uses it to find out more about his enemy. As for i Deathly Hallows of the title, it should be noted that the invisibility cloak has a rather marginal role compared to the one it has in the book, where it is used on several occasions and crucial moments.
One of the most criticized scenes of the film in the film, in relation to what is described in the book, is the one he sees starring Harry and Dumbledore. In the film this is treated hastily, while in the book the former headmaster of Hogwarts explains to Harry why he survived this time too, talks about his past and the reasons for the choices he made. The scene is also missing from the film duel with Voldemort in the middle of the Great Hall. Occasion in which in the book Harry explains in front of everyone who owns the Elder wand. In the film, however, he finds himself saying it privately to Ron and Hermione. Still about the Elder Wand, in the book Harry doesn’t break it like he does in the moviebut places it in Dumbledore’s tomb.
Some scenes from the film were later added by the writers but are not present in the book, such as the Elderberry wand snapping when Voldemort destroys the bubble of protection spells around Hogwarts and Neville getting permission to blow up a bridge. Finally, even the scene ofeagerly awaited kiss between Ron and Hermione it’s different between the book and the movie. In the film, the two kiss after the moments of terror experienced in the Chamber of Secrets. In the book, however, Hermione launches into the long kiss after hearing Ron worrying about the health of the house elves.
