According to Suspilne, health officials in Vinnitsa Oblast in central Ukraine confirmed 15 new cases of hepatitis A in the past day.
According to media reports, since the outbreak broke out on October 16, the cumulative number of people infected is 111, including 22 children. Deputy Health Director Tatyana Bondarenko said six other patients were under medical observation, awaiting test results.
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in Vinnitsa Oblast due to an outbreak of hepatitis A. The epidemic has spread to five regions: Mogilev-Podolsky, Khmelnik, Kalinivka, Hysen and Koziatin.
Officials are tightening epidemiological measures across the state. At least four possible sources of infection have been identified, although authorities have not yet specified what they are.
Epidemiologists are actively inspecting the city’s markets, food production facilities, dairy producers, water systems and drinking water distribution companies to contain the outbreak.
