Jada Pinkett Smith Reacts to Chris Rock’s Jokes During Comedy Special – The Hollywood Reporter

A few months after Chris Rock Chris Rock: Selective Outrage On Netflix, Jada Pinkett Smith shares her thoughts on the comedy special.

In an interview with New York Timespublished online on Saturday, Pinkett Smith reacted to Rock mocking her and Will Smith during his special that followed the infamous Oscar slap.

“I remember my heart being pierced, my heart cracking, and I remember my feelings being so hurt,” she said. “And then I remember being able to smile and wish him well at the same time.”

At the time, many viewers tuned in to the special to hear Rock’s performance as Smith slapped him at the 2022 Academy Awards. The comedian not only dragged Smith during the program, but also took aim at Pinkett Smith and the couple’s marital problems.

“People asked me if it hurt,” he said during the special. “Yes, it fucking hurts! I was hit so hard that I heard “Summertime” ringing in my ears.

Rock later added: “Will Smith practices selective outrage. Outrage because everyone knows what the hell happened. Anyone who really knows knows I have nothing to do with this crap. I didn’t have any entanglements.”

Pinkett Smith, whose new memoir Worthywill hit bookshelves on October 17th, also recently announced in an exclusive sit-down interview with Jada’s Story: NBC News Special with Hoda Kotb that she didn’t initially realize that Smith had actually hit Rock during the performance.

She insisted that when she rolled her eyes at Rock Soldier Jane 2 Commenting on her nearly bald head due to her battle with alopecia, she thought Smith’s reaction was a planned part of the awards ceremony.

Pinkett Smith explained that later, when his publicist told her, “Chris has left the building and is not going to press charges,” she realized that her husband, from whom she has been estranged since 2016, had hit the comedian.
