Jenna Ortega in talks for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2

After the lead role in the TV series Wednesday on Netflix, Jenna Ortega she found herself not only being considered a full-blown sex symbol, but she is also among the most desired young actresses. No wonder then that Tim Burton himself is the ones most eager to have her back in the cast of a new production, the sequel of Beetlejuice.

Variety reports it, according to which Jenna Ortega would be in talks to play the daughter of the famous Lydia Deetz, which as those who saw the 1988 original will recall, starred Winona Ryder. If confirmed, this would mark her second work with Tim Burton, who she executive produced on Wednesday and directed four of the first season’s eight episodes.

variety says representatives of Warner Bros and Ortega herself did not immediately respond to a request for comment, so at the moment it remains a rumor.

Beetlejuice 2 it has been in the works for some time and the first rumors date back to 2013, when Michael Keaton and Tim Burton started talking about a possible sequel. We can therefore say with a good margin of certainty that Keaton himself will reprise his starring role. Indeed, in 2014 the director himself admitted that.

“There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There’s a script and I’d love to work with him again. I think now there are more possibilities than ever… I miss that character. There is something cathartic and surprising about this. I think he’s closer than ever.”

The original Beetlejuice centers on Charles (Jeffrey Jones), Delia (Catherine O’Hara) and Lydia Deetz (Ryder), a married couple who inhabit a house formerly occupied by the Maitlands (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis), present as ghosts . The Maitlands died in a car accident, but nevertheless they want to re-inhabit their old home even if they are in ethereal form, and to do so they decide to recruit Beetlejuice (Keaton), a “bio-exorcist”, to scare the Deetzes.

Beetlejuice was critically acclaimed and was able to gross $74 million in North America, on a $15 million budget. At the moment no timeline for the sequel has been disclosed and the feeling is that the production is still in the preliminary stages, so we’ll talk about it later when something concrete emerges.
