Vanity Fair recently published an interview with Jessica Chastain regarding her 2023 Emmy Award nomination. In an interview that was done ahead of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Jessica Chastain touched on topics related to her previous comments about her and Isaac used their longtime friendship to fuel their relationship in Scenes from a Married Life. She said their relationship had changed since then and that she needed a “little break” to recover. Here is his full quote:
“Scenes from a Married Life” was very difficult. And I love Oscar (Isaac), but the reality is that our friendship has never been the same. Everything will be fine, but after this experience, I felt the need to take a break. This show had a lot of “I love you, I hate you” lines.
Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac have been friends for a long time, ever since they met at Juilliard. However, Scenes from a Married Life was only their second big-screen collaboration, despite both playing major villains in back-to-back X-Men films. Seven years before joining the cast of Scenes from a Married Life, they starred together in the 2014 film The Most Violent Year.
Given Chastain’s recent comment, it’s unlikely that they will work together again in the foreseeable future. However, after another seven years, it would be appropriate for them to reunite. However, none of their previous collaborations seem to be particularly suitable for a sequel, so it’s likely to be a brand new project.
Perhaps appearing in the same genre as the intense drama Scenes from a Married Life could help them rebuild their friendship. It would be quite unexpected if the couple starred together in a romantic comedy or something similar. While neither star has had the opportunity to showcase their comedic prowess, both have voiced roles in animated comedies: Isaac starred in The Addams Family and its sequel, and Chastain brought her talent to bear in Madagascar 3.
