Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will soon become the first player to surpass 5,000 turnovers in his career.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have so far stumbled out of the gate to start the 2023-24 NBA season. While James remains an all-NBA performer in his 21st season in the league, the Lakers have dealt with injuries and inconsistent shooting so far this season and are currently 3-5 heading into Friday. LeBron James has climbed many times NBA Statistics Peak In recent seasons, the most notable was surpassing former Laker Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time scoring leader this past 2022-23 season. However, the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat star also received another, less enviable NBA honor: becoming the first player in NBA history to commit the most career turnovers, per Johnny Kilroy Players with over 5,000 hits.
James currently has 4,999 career turnovers.
Of course, however negative this stat is, it’s more a product of James’ longevity in the NBA than a reflection of his ability to play basketball. Like most players who are considered a one-man offense, James has had his share of turnovers throughout his career. However, fans of the Cavaliers, Heat and now Lakers are probably more than happy to acknowledge his occasional mistakes compared to the amazing things he can do with a basketball in his hands.
