When LeBron James rose from Akron, Ohio, to basketball superstardom, he never forgot where he came from, and now the site will become a museum filled with items and memories he took with him.according to Associated PressThe opening of the James Museum on November 25, LeBron James’ home, coincides with his Los Angeles Lakers game against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.According to reports, before the start of the game ESPNJames was celebrated by his former team for breaking the all-time NBA scoring record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

After the game, James told reporters that his mother, Gloria James, maintains an impressive collection of sports memorabilia., “Ever since I first started playing sports, I used to get angry at my mom for saving everything,” James said. “She threw it right back in my face… because a lot of (the items) in there were saved because of her. Stuff. That’s pretty cool.”

The museum opened on the morning of James’ game against the Cavaliers on November 25. ESPN James reportedly reflected on where his NBA career flourished. “It’s special,” James said in an interview with the media after the game. “Being a kid from Akron is pretty special. I grew up 30 miles south of Cleveland and to be able to get drafted here, spend my first seven years here and do something the team has never seen Special things that have happened. When I got drafted, I said I wanted to light up this place like Vegas. So I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job at that in my 11 years here.”

General admission to the museum is $23, with proceeds benefiting a training fund for students, parents and educators at James’ I Promise School in Akron. James’ mother curated the collection, which includes artifacts like the baggy 2003 all-white suit he wore on draft day and shoes he wore in some of his biggest games.

James, a player, someone who’s always chasing the next thing, is finally able to slow down and, for at least one day, reflect on his accomplishments, telling ESPN”, “I think it’s pretty cool that I’m able to do something in my life that brings back my community, continues to highlight my community, and give my community a place that people want to visit, want to see. I want to be proud of it,” James said. “Me too. “I’m proud that my foundation can do some great things, and this is just one of the things that we can all be proud of in my hometown. “
