DogMan Luc Besson is one of the first films presented at the Venice Film Festival to sign an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA that will allow actors to participate in the event and promote the film.
The current strike of actors demands that the cast of a union film not participate in its promotion, whether it be a premiere, talk show, podcast, interview, exhibition or film festival. But the SAG-AFTRA union is signing temporary agreements with non-AMPTP manufacturers to increase pressure on the latter: the agreements provide for the signing of a temporary contract that satisfies all the demands of the union on the manufacturers, and will then be replaced by any collective agreement signed after the strike ends.
The Luc Besson film (which was independently financed and does not yet have a US distributor) features well-known actors such as Caleb Landry Jones, Christopher Denham, Jojo T. Gibbs and Marisa Berenson, some of whom are members of SAG-AFTRA. We do not know which of them will be at the festival, but the news will undoubtedly cheer up the organizers of the Festival and open the way for new exceptions. Who won’t be there if the strike is still going on I have no doubt Emma Stone (For Poor things) AND Bradley Cooper (For Owner), as Barbera himself confirmed.
