Disney’s acquisition of Fox a few years ago is starting to pay off, both with the new Fantastic 4 film already in pre-production ahead of its February 14, 2025 release, and with the increase of the ‘sightings’ of the Mutants and members of the X-Men in the MCU.
In this article, we list you all characters related to the X-Men or defined as ‘mutants’ that have appeared in the MCU so farwaiting for a possible reboot of the Marvel Studios film saga:
- Deadpool – The most obvious name, and also the first Marvel comic mutant to have his own official Marvel Studios stand-alone film that will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon.
- Wolverine – The most famous name: after years of rumors, Hugh Jackman has officially confirmed the return as Logan, with the first new appearance that will take place as co-star of Deadpool 3. According to rumors, Wolverine will also return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
- Colossus – news this week, is official confirmation that Colossus will also be returning to Deadpool 3, following appearances in Deadpool and in Deadpool 2: as you know, Colossus is a historical member of the X-Men in Marvel comics and his links with the team led by Charles Xavier is always an inexhaustible source of many incorrect jokes from Deadpool.
- Ms Marvel – the character was not born as a mutant in the Marvel comics, but for the MCU his origins have been modified to pave the way for the arrival of the X-Gene in the saga.
- Charles Xavier – the leader of the X-Men, played once again by the legendary Patrick Stewart, appeared in the MCU during the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The actor has hinted that Professor X could return to the MCU, to come alongside Ian McKellen again as Magneto!
- Namor – the character, known by Marvel comic fans as ‘the first mutant’, made his MCU debut during the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverand although his origins have been slightly changed from the comics in the transition to the big screen, his link to the mutant gene has been maintained and officially confirmed.
- Scarlet Witch – in the comics the character played by Elizabeth Olsen is the daughter of Magneto, and she is a hundred percent mutant. The MCU, for rights issues, at the time of the character’s debut during Avengers: Age of Ultron he has never approached Scarlet to the realm of mutants, and over the years he has brought it closer and closer to that of dark magic. Scarlet Witch’s return has already been half-confirmed for upcoming MCU installments, and who knows if the character will be able to finally embrace her mutant comic book origins one day.
