Streep spoke about her experiences with Weinstein in a statement released after Weinstein made the allegations. The actress said (via HuffPost):
“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has shocked those of us whose work he championed and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The fearless women who raised their voices to expose this violence are our heroes,” adding: “One thing can be made clear. Not everyone knew. “Harvey was fiercely supportive of this work, annoying but respectful of me in our working relationship and the many others with whom he worked professionally.”
Since the late 1970s, Meryl Streep has consistently performed brilliantly in many blockbusters, earning her the title of legendary actress.

Further in the statement, Streep emphasized that she was not aware of Weinstein’s meetings, his interactions with other celebrities,
“I didn’t know about these other crimes; I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I was not aware that he was holding meetings in a hotel room, in a bathroom, or other inappropriate coercive practices. And if everyone knew, I don’t believe all the investigative journalists in the entertainment and hard news media for decades would have neglected to write about it.”
Weinstein was found guilty in February 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison in March 2020. Since Weinstein’s imprisonment, many women have come forward with allegations that other men abused their power in the industry.
