Will Smith recently told how his participation in Men in Black, while the actor revealed that he had not originally planned to work on the project. After Independence Day, he didn’t want to make another movie about aliens.
Here are his words:
James Lassiter chose the Men in Black. I sort of understood the project, but I didn’t want to do Men in Black. It was the year after I did Independence Day, so I didn’t want to do two alien films in a row. But Steven Spielberg sent a helicopter for me, he wanted us to talk about it. We talked at his house, and he already convinced me to “hello”.
Steven Spielberg convinced Will Smith to take part in the Independence Day celebration in the same way that the character of Renee Zellweger was won over by Tom Cruise’s Jerry Maguire: one hello was enough.
Recall that “Men in Black” became a real cult among the blockbusters of the nineties and was able to spawn two sequels and a reboot.
