Michael Jordan sends jersey retirement ceremony tribute video to Chris Chelios originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Unfortunately, Chris Chelios’ good friend Michael Jordan was unable to make the trip to Chicago to attend Chris Chelios’ jersey retirement ceremony at the United Center. Jordan said in the video that he encountered death in his home.
Instead, Jordan sent Chelios a message congratulating him on his achievement.
“Hey man, unfortunately Chelios, I can’t make it this week,” Jordan said. “I tried to compete for the Ring of Honor. I didn’t make it then. I lost a member of my family on Sunday. Look, you were a very deserving man and I’m proud to see your jersey hanging there with mine. “Jersey. You and I have been friends for 30 years, so I wish you all the best. I’m sending you a lot of love, you know, Blackhawks! “
Chelios made sure to mention Jordan in his jersey retirement speech, describing the two’s strong relationship that spanned 30 years.
“We’re definitely going to Michael Jordan, who’s become a good friend of mine. He’s the king, no question,” Chelios said.
“They use that old saying ‘I want to be like Mike,’ and well, I really want to be like Mike. One thing I did, which I hadn’t done in my career before, was do a proper Practice. Also, as Jordan mentioned, he did not travel to Chicago for the Bulls’ Ring of Honor ceremony. He then sent a video message played at the United Center in lieu of his absence. Once again, his presence at the United Center will be missed. This time, however, Dennis Rodman was in attendance. (He also missed Ring of Honor events.)
But Chelios wasn’t hurt that Jordan didn’t play. He said they would celebrate together soon.
“I met him a few weeks ago and we talked,” Chelios said. “It’s OK. His spirit is here. I’m hanging in the rafters with his jersey. We talked about it. We talked yesterday and he’s always been there for me. He’s in the Hall of Fame and he came and suddenly something happened, We’ll be celebrating on his boat next week.”
