Bogotá is experiencing a new wave of respiratory disease infections. In this regard, the Minister of Health of Bogota raised the alarm on ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection) and spoke on Radio Caracol about the measures being taken in the district.

According to the Ministry of Health, acute respiratory infections refer to various diseases caused by different viruses. “They constitute a group of diseases that occur in the respiratory system, are caused by different microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria, and have a sudden onset and a duration of less than two weeks.”

In turn, this infection is considered the most common in the world, according to the health authorities, and is therefore a relevant issue on Colombia’s public health agenda. “Most of these infections, like the common cold, are mild, but depending on the person’s general condition, they can become complicated and even life-threatening, like pneumonia.”

Meanwhile, Bogota’s Minister of Health commented that although the pandemic and the strong wave of coronavirus infections have passed, such diseases are still a concern.

“This topic has been bugging us for the past three and a half years. Normally we have two respiratory peaks a year. One in term one and one in term two. The first happens in March-April and the second In October and November,” he said.

The Secretary recalled that during incarceration minors had the least chance of developing respiratory diseases. “During the pandemic, there’s a phenomenon where our only good news is that girls and boys are not affected. But, of course, we have them outside of schools and daycares. By locking them up, they don’t get infected. Respiratory Diseases”.

However, the official commented that since 2021, there has been a significant increase in cases of respiratory infections in both girls and boys. To this end, he said he is appealing to the public to protect children.

In addition, he explained, these infections are worrisome because boys and girls currently have lower levels of natural immunity. “It happened because we locked him up and we had very low vaccination rates against all childhood diseases.”

In the same vein, he commented that the coronavirus has affected the smallest country in the country. “Coronavirus has started to attack children under the age of four in a very important way that we did not expect. That’s why we’re not vaccinating these populations.”

Therefore, the secretary called on parents to vaccinate their children, as the city has the vaccine.
