Monte Compatri: 15th “Moorish Festival”

More than two years after the forced suspension of this traditional event due to the covid pandemic, the 15th edition of the “Festival Moreschi” is back in Monte Compatri.

The Alessandro Moreschi Cultural Association – with the contribution of Photo Club Controluse, the Municipality of Monte Compatri and Chorus Inside International – is organizing a cultural event dedicated to Alessandro Moreschi, the last soprano of the Sistine Chapel.
The event will be held over two days: Saturday 10 June 2023 at the Convent of San Silvestro And Sunday 11 June 2023 in the Cathedral of the Assumption,

With this event we intend to remember a fellow citizen who, with his art, has contributed to enhance the culture of the municipality of Monte Compatri and the region of Castelli Romani. His memory lives on along with other personalities who have presented their art as an example to the younger generations.

Alessandro Moreschi – known as the “Angel of Rome” – born in Monte Compatri and lived between the 19th and 20th centuries, was the last person in the world to be recorded for the purpose of preserving a child’s voice He was castrated at an early age. And then introducing him to singing. He began singing at the school of San Salvatore in Lauro in Rome in 1871, and after 12 years of rigorous study, in 1883, he joined the Sistine Chapel Choir. He died on April 21, 1922 at the age of 64.

The second evening of the Festival will take place on Sunday 11 June 2023 at 18:30 at the Duomo dell’Assunta di Monte Compatri, with Choral Review “Vocality Over Time”,
