NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes passes Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers for historic achievement in Week 5 vs. Vikings

Patrick Mahomes is only 28 years old and has already cemented himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

In six full seasons of his career to date, the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback has earned the following honors:

  • two time super bowl champion
  • Two-time Super Bowl MVP
  • Won regular season MVP twice
  • Offensive Player of the Year
  • Three All-Pro team options
  • Five Pro Bowls
  • Most passing touchdowns in 2018 and 2022
  • Most passing yards in 2022

Ahead of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings (October 8), he had the following:

  • Career high passer rating – 105.1
  • Highest career postseason passer rating – 107.4
  • Most career passing yards average – 300.3
  • Quarterback total yards in a season – 5,614 in 2022
  • Most postseason passing touchdowns – 11 in 2021 (tied)

The Chiefs won 27-20, setting a new record for Patrick Mahomes – the youngest quarterback to defeat 31 teams. Only nine other players at the position have achieved this feat:

  • tom brady
  • Brett Favre
  • Drew Brees
  • Peyton Manning
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Ben Roethlisberger
  • Russell Wilson
  • Alex Smith
  • Kerry Collins

The first four players are also the only ones to beat all 32 existing NFL teams. Interestingly, Smith has never won a game against the Chiefs, while Collins has failed to beat them in four games against the Miami Dolphins.

Patrick Mahomes’ wide receivers impressed against Vikings

Over the years, the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive success has been defined by at least three individuals: Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid.

Wide receiver has not traditionally been a prominent part of their package, even when Tyreek Hill and JuJu Smith-Schuster were there. But their first-day loss to the Detroit Lions drove home the importance of the position, as players like Skye Moore and Kadarius Toney struggled in Kelce’s absence. Struggling.

The Chiefs’ decision to invest more in wide receivers ultimately paid off against the Vikings, as their receivers gained 176 yards. After the game, Reed talked about the improvement (via Arrowhead Pride ):

“I thought our receivers – as a whole – did a great job. The young guys stepped up and made some big plays. (There were) a few drops. We’ll work on that, but they’re growing , I think they are very respectable.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes said the team’s best is yet to come.

“We’re going to get everybody going – and going in the right direction. “I think by the end of the year we’re going to be dangerous – because you’re not going to know who’s going to get those chances throughout the game. ” (via Sports Illustrated)

Rookie Rashee Rice caught one of the Chiefs’ three touchdowns. This is his second time in this position this season.
