“Ophelia”, directed by Claire McCarthy, stars Daisy Ridley (Rey in the latest Star Wars trilogy). Based on the novel of the same name by Lisa Klein, it retells the story of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from Ophelia’s point of view. It debuted at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and saw Naomi Watts like Gertrude and Clive Owen Claudius, respectively the mother and uncle of Prince Hamlet, played by George Mackay.
Scenario
The story of Ophelia, her love for Hamlet and her painful relationship with her mother Gertrude, of whom she is the most famous lady-in-waiting. Growing up as a beautiful and intelligent woman, Ophelia quickly attracts the attention of the handsome prince Hamlet. The two indulge in this secret love, but the intrigues of the court turn tragic: the king is killed.
