A report released by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health in Managua on Monday stated that a total of 13,057 people in Nicaragua have been infected with pneumonia so far this year, with an average of 169.6 cases per day.

According to health department data, there have been 1,229 cases of pneumonia in the past seven days, a 2% increase from the previous week.

Data from the Ministry of Health show that 4,207 cases of pneumonia were reported in the first four weeks of 2024, 5,134 cases were reported in the next four weeks, 3,716 cases were reported in the next three weeks, and a total of 13,057 cases were reported within 77 days. According to the National Health Map, 363 people died from pneumonia in Nicaragua in 2023, with a death rate of 0.5 per 10,000 inhabitants.

Pneumonia is one of the 12 leading causes of death in my country, followed by acute myocardial infarction, cancer or malignant tumors, renal failure, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cirrhosis, traffic accidents, intracranial hemorrhage and chronic ischemic heart disease .

According to the same report, pneumonia was the most common cause of hospitalization with 34,529 cases during 2023, followed by diarrhea, kidney disease, fever suspected of dengue, bile duct disease, urinary tract infection and diabetes. map.
