A noir that makes you think of Hitchcock between English fog and deadly passions. AND “Rachel(“My Cousin Rachel”) a mysterious and multi-level love story of the director Roger Michell in 2017, set in 1830s Cornwall, in which a young Englishman (Sam Claflin) implements a strategy of revenge against his mysterious and beautiful cousin (Rachel Weisz), believing that she is responsible for the death of his cousin Ambrose, with whom he grew up. However, after meeting a woman, his feelings begin to change and he eventually succumbs to her charms to the point that he becomes obsessed with her. Alfred Hitchcock’s shadow looms throughout this story, also based on the novel Daphne Du Maurier, author of Rebecca the First Wife and The Birds. Mitchell, the director who rose to fame with Notting Hill, manages to steer the noir genre with confidence, thanks in part to the strong support of Rachel Weisz, who does a wonderful job in the role.
