On February 15, Austin Butler was officially revealed as one of 12 stars chosen for the 2023 Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fairalong with none other than Selena Gomez. These days, you probably associate Austin with everything related Elvis. Thanks to the biopic of Baz Luhrmann, the actor became a real movie star, receiving his first Golden Globe And an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the late star.
However, back in the day, Austin was working on projects that were a bit… different, also alongside Selena Gomez. Talking with Vanity FairAustin took a quick trip down memory lane and recalled his time appearing on the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly.
Selena Gomez: ‘There’s one thing I regret about Wizards of Waverly Place’
Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten this series existed: Austin himself has admitted that those days feel like “another life” to him. But let’s rewind the tape. In case you don’t know, in 2010 Austin Butler starred as guest stars in episode ten of the third season of Wizards of Waverley Placetitled Positive Alex.
Austin played a character named George, the leader of the school gang, who happened to be the love interest of Selena’s character, Alex Russo. During the episode, Alex casts a spell on herself to become a more positive person, since George found her normal ways not so attractive. (I remind you of never change and then never for a man, folks).
Let’s go back to real life. Even though the cameo only lasted one episode, it seems Austin and Selena stuck around very close since then, so much so that Selena has found one photo i remember from the set to show austin while it was in production for Elvis.
“When I was filming Elvis, Selena found this picture of the two of us from when I guest-starred on her show. And she sent it to me saying, “Wow, do you remember that?” It feels like another life“», the 31-year-old actor told Vanity Fair.
We’d love to see the photo too, Austin!
