Well, no eliminate. But the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion did walk in two shows at Paris Fashion Week this week for Balmain and Off-White fashion houses.
Williams wore a black midi dress with a white rose on the front to the Balmain fashion show, which was also attended by singer Cher and actor Ashley Park show, who plays Mindy Chen in “Emily in Paris,” and participated in Off-White shows hosted by models Alessandra Ambrosio and Ashley Graham, recording artists Halle Bailey and Willow Smith, and actress Lisa Rinna, among others.
Williams got a sneak peek at the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024-25 collection at the show, but she has a particularly personal connection to Off-White, the fashion house founded by her close friend Virgil Abloh.
Abloh, who died in 2021 after a battle with cancer, partnered with Williams’ longtime apparel sponsor Nike to design her match apparel for the 2018 U.S. Open and 2019 French Open. He also designed a pair of custom Nike Air Force 1 shoes for her for the 2019 Met Gala.
In February 2022, Williams walked the runway as a designer during Paris Fashion Week. She paid another tribute to her late friend on Instagram, posting “#VirgilForever” alongside snaps of the outfits she wore for this year’s show – a black sheath dress with cutouts on the sides, and a black and white dress. At the Off-White show, Williams jokes with People’s Gallery — Maurice Kamara, a Brooklyn-based stylist who runs an influential fashion TikTok account with 1 million followers — was given this accessory by her “high school boyfriend” and has provided style tips to fashionistas around the world .
“My style tip is to be yourself. Own yourself and accept that,” she said. “If you want to be different, be different. Just be yourself.”
