Serena Williams is about to win the Fashion Icon Award at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards.
Since retiring, the sports icon has focused her attention on her S by Serena clothing line and will now be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in November.
Serena, 42, one of the most successful athletes of all time, told Vogue: “I am extremely honored to receive the prestigious Fashion Icon Award from the CFDA, an organization I have long admired job and rise to the ranks of fashion icons. “I always looked up to her. “
The former Grand Slam winner also highlighted her own passion for fashion.
She shared: “Ever since I was a little girl, I have used fashion as an outlet to express myself.
“I’ve enjoyed learning my style and letting it change as my life evolves, but I’ve always maintained one thing: fashion is for everyone, no matter your body type, race or income.”
Serena launched her own fashion line back in 2018, explaining at the time that it was inspired by her daughter.
The sports legend revealed six-year-old Olympia encouraged her to spread the message of confidence.
Serena, who married internet entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian in 2017, told Harper’s Bazaar: “I’m inspired by power – bringing femininity and strength to the modern woman.
“My goal is to make women feel confident and sexy when wearing it. It’s practical and durable, but it makes you feel good and walk taller – something everyone should feel like.
“Ever since (giving birth to) Olympia, I’ve been like, ‘Okay, I have a daughter and I want her to feel good about herself.'” She’s already strong, so I want her to feel beautiful, and I wanted to do that through this series Spread the word. “
