1961 – George Blanda of the Houston Oilers throws for 505 yards and seven touchdowns in a 49-13 win over the New York Titans.
1961 – Cleveland’s Jim Brown rushes for 237 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Browns to a 45-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
1966 – No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Michigan State are tied 10-10. The Irish battled back from 10-0 down to take on the Spartans on a team that included Bubba Smith and three teammates who were all top-eight picks in the next NFL draft players.
1978 – Philadelphia’s Herman Edwards fumbles a touchdown with 31 seconds left to give Philadelphia a 19-17 victory over the New York Giants. Instead of taking a knee to preserve the 17-12 victory, quarterback Joe Pisarcik handed his hands to linebacker Larry Csonka. Edwards picked up the dropped ball and ran 26 yards for a touchdown.
1983 – Edmonton Oilers’ Jari Kurri scores five goals and Wayne Gretzky adds three goals and five assists as the team goes 13- 4 Defeated the New Jersey Devils.
1983 – Los Angeles’ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar becomes the second player in NBA history to score 30,000 points, joining Wilt Chamberlain, and the Lakers 117-110 win over Portland.
1992 — Oakland reliever Dennis Eckersley is elected American League MVP. Eckersley led the league with 51 saves in 54 opportunities and became the ninth player to win both the Cy Young Award and MVP honors in the same season.
1993 – Oregon and Oregon State are tied 0-0 in Eugene. It was the last scoreless tie in FBS history. Overtime in NCAA games began in 1994.
1994 – Rashaan Salaam becomes the fourth 2,000-yard rusher in college history, running for 259 yards and two scores in Colorado’s 41-20 victory over Iowa State touchdowns.
1995 — The Baltimore Stallions defeat the Calgary Stampeders 37-20 to become the first American team to win the Gray Cup in the CFL’s 83-year history.
2004 – In the final minute of a game against the Detroit Pistons, Indiana’s Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson stormed into the stands and started a fight with Auburn Hills fans. The brawl forced an early end to the game that the Pacers won 97-82.
2006 – Jaromir Jagr becomes the 16th player to score in the first period of the New York Rangers’ 4-1 win over Tampa Bay. NHL player with 600 goals.
2009 – South Africa’s Caster Semenya will retain her 800m gold medal at the world championships and the results of her gender test will be kept secret.
2011 – Baylor’s Robert Griffin III threw for 479 yards and four touchdowns, including a pass to Terrance Williams with 8 seconds left ) of 34 yards as the No. 25 Bears beat No. 5 Oklahoma for the first time, 45-38. The Bears defeated the Sooners 0-20.
2018 — Jared Goff throws a 40-yard touchdown pass to Gerald Everett for the go-ahead score in Los Angeles with 1:49 left in the game. The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51. Patrick Mahomes threw for a career-high 478 yards and six touchdown passes for the Chiefs. It was the third-highest scoring game ever.
2018 – Rutgers beat Eastern Michigan 63-36, scoring just four points in the first half, an NCAA all-time low. The Scarlet Knights tied the NCAA Division I men’s basketball record for points allowed in a half. The halftime score was 31-4.
2019 – LeBron James had 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 112-107, becoming the first player in NBA history among all 30 teams to score the game. Triple-double player.
