‘The Color Purple,’ Michael B. Jordan and ‘Invisible Beauty’ Are Third Night Winners

Update on night three winners: Purple On the third night of the NAACP Image Awards, the film won the Ensemble Cast Award and the Breakthrough Creative Award for director Blitz Bazawule.

Wednesday’s other winners in film include one thousand and One For cinematography, invisible beauty (documentary) and brother (independent film).

Television winners included Michael B. Jordan, who won the Outstanding Guest Performance award for hosting saturday night live Last year, along with Proud Family: Loud and Proud (Excellent animated series), Passionate: How African-American Cuisine is Changing America (documentary) and Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus‘Leah Sava Jeffries (Outstanding Youth Performance).

The two winners announced Wednesday were in the television and film categories: Creed III Won the Stunt Ensemble Award, dear motherAlan Hughes goes home with Documentary Director trophy.

HBO black lady sketch show Named Outstanding Variety Show, DC Young Fly Celebrity Plaza Named Outstanding Host and Issa Rae Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Won the Outstanding Voice-over Performance Award for a Character at the second night of the NAACP Image Awards.

Winners in the major television categories were announced at a virtual awards ceremony on Tuesday as part of a week-long rollout of winners at various events. It all happens ahead of Saturday’s 55th annual NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah and broadcast live on BET and CBS.

Today’s other winners include VH1 wild attacknamed Outstanding Reality Program, Reality Competition or Game Show; Leslie Jones for Outstanding Performance in a Short Film Series Edited daily show; and Kyla Pratt, voice acting for Disney+ Proud Family: Loud and Proud.

Image Awards were handed out in the music and book categories on Monday, with winners including Usher, HER, Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Ke Kirk Franklin, Tems, and movie soundtracks. Purple. Victoria Monet and Chris Brown were double winners.

Usher is also in the running for Saturday’s Entertainer of the Year award, a category that also includes Keke Palmer, Best Actor Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino and Harley Davidson. Bailey. During the weekend’s ceremony, poet Amanda Gorman will also receive the group’s President’s Award, and New Edition will be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.

Also honored this week are R&B singer-songwriter Frankie Beverly, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and creative director/costume designer June Ambrose, who will receive the Vanguard Award. Both honors will be presented at Friday’s non-televised NAACP Image Awards fashion show.
