The coat was painted in shades of pink. There was an Andrew Garfield suit, complete with a terracotta blouse with a bow (untied), and a Florence Pugh jacket, a blush jacket that goes with everything. Penn Badgley also got the outerwear memo: a must-have skimmer, worn with a matching gray skirt and combat boots—a combination of prepping and stomping. It was all for show, and Valentino’s show took place in the atrium of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Fashion month—the runway extravaganza that spanned New York, Paris, London, and Milan—is coming to an end, and this story could otherwise be called “the coolest looks from the front row.”
Penn Badgley and Andrew Garfield
Penn Badgley and Andrew Garfield are just two guys in great coats. At Valentino’s ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, Badgley wore it with a simple tie and wrap skirt, while Garfield stuck to the brand’s elemental ethos: colors go well when they go together. Case in point: bubblegum pink and its brown terracotta tile counterpart. Blouse with a bow, untied.
Almost everything about Simone Ashley’s outfit is cut down: a very miniskirt, a high-necked top but cropped, a jacket that cuts down to the navel. It’s a heavy dose of attitude, but Bridgerton And Little mermaid the actor wears it well. Her sky-high boots are a good counterbalance.
Zendaya brought countless uses of the word “edgy” into the media lexicon this week when she glided down the orange carpet in a plunging white zip-up dress at the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. Gold fittings adorned the shoulders of the actor and brand ambassador, like gold-plated suspenders.
A watch is like a necklace. Impractical? Yes! Gorgeous? Yes too! Social media and coffee mogul Emma Chamberlain doubled down on the full palette of the academic look, wearing a blue button-down shirt, blazer, cascading braids and statement tortoiseshell frames while part of Miu Miu’s front row.
In Emma’s company was another Emma – the ever-stylish chameleon Corrine. The actor has no qualms about embracing any side of maximalism (read: their JW Anderson goldfish dress on My policeman European premiere) or minimalism (their elegant tailoring at Wimbledon) with passion, here opting for something spiritually close to a corporate trip to a tropical island.
In other hands it might look a bit like a Harry Potter sorting hat, but at Vivienne Westwood’s label, which is now run by her partner Andreas Kronthaler, the large headpiece is simply adorable. Pamela Anderson lets it and the matching enveloping coat, belted and plaid, speak for itself, except for the red hue on the nails.
Fresh, minty look from Game of Thrones alumnus Nathalie Emmanuel on her way to Stella McCartney’s sun-drenched show at the Marché Saxe-Breteuil, a threesome that’s a beautiful and clever exercise next to the load.
Also present Tar star Cate Blanchett presents gamine double denim mixed with twill, with fringe panels and a regenerative cotton front, in keeping with Stella McCartney’s commitment to conscious luxury. While some fashion week goers use the event as an opportunity to shine, it’s nice to see Blanchett in something that seems to be aimed squarely at comfort. Her multi-layer shoes are also of this brand, a kind of sneaker trifle.
In celebrated creative Sarah Burton’s latest collection at Alexander McQueen, actor Elle Fanning showed off one of the designer’s early works: a corseted dress covered in tiny embroidered bees from the beekeeper-inspired 2013 collection, the lattice design a subtle nod to honeycomb. The intricate neckerchief, glittering and stretched up her neck like a pedestal supporting her head, is a fitting theatrical finish for a brand dedicated to the avant-garde.
