Actual news: Recently, various accounts on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, shared a striking image of popular celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox and Emma Watson wearing skimpy outfits. Surprisingly, the image has racked up a staggering 65 million views and almost 100,000 likes. The catch, however, is that this image is completely fake, created by artificial intelligence (AI). The image was accompanied by a tweet asking viewers to choose “the most beautiful” among them. The tweet said: “Who do you think is the most beautiful?”
Even though the image was not real, many internet users were fooled into believing that it was a genuine photo of the celebrities in question. At first glance there may be an illusion of authenticity, but upon closer inspection the inconsistencies become apparent. They also appear airbrushed and their skin is perfect, too perfect.
The image was first posted on Reddit on September 26 with the caption: “This image should be preserved for future generations.” The post received significant response, with nearly 2.3 lakh upvotes and many comments sparking a lively debate about the authenticity of the AI-generated image.
“Why? The future generation will have much better AI fakes than this one,” a Reddit user commented. “AI-generated crap doesn’t need to be saved,” another user wrote. “Creating AI art is fun and will change graphic design forever… but uploading stupid @ss fake photos of four celebrities as if they have any value is absolutely idiotic,” said a third. “Brutal AI,” added a fourth user.
Beyond the fake nature of the image, there is a deeper concern about how people easily sexualize women through AI.
