Café Negro Portal, Culiacan, Sinaloa. – Gerardo Kenny Inzunza Leyva, Director of Prevention and Health Promotion of Sinaloa State, clarified that so far there has not been a rebound in Covid-19 cases in Sinaloa, causing panic.
There are currently 422 active COVID-19 cases across the state, but he stressed that no deaths or new hospitalizations related to the disease have been recorded this quarter.
“We don’t have any alerts at the moment, we have 422 active cases and very positively we have had no COVID-19 hospitalizations or deaths this quarter,” he stressed.
Health officials also noted that children ages 5 to 11 are being vaccinated with Pfizer doses as a precaution against possible outbreaks. These activities are carried out in schools and through home visits by medical staff from the Ministry of Health, IMSS and ISSSTE.
Likewise, he stressed the importance of understanding that in the “new normal” Covid-19 is a virus that continues to mutate into variants, but that these variants do not necessarily represent a greater threat.
“There are currently two variants of interest, the ‘Eris’ variant and the variant known as ‘Pirola’, that are being monitored and have not been found to increase mortality or disease severity; just more transmissible,” he explained .
Inzunza Leyva expects an increase in COVID-19 cases in December, January and February, given that other respiratory viruses such as influenza and the common cold are more severe during these months. However, these increases are not expected to translate into severe cases requiring hospitalization or new deaths as a result of vaccination.
