The young d’Artagnan dreams of becoming King Louis’ musketeer and goes to Paris to serve Captain de Treville. During the journey, he encounters a girl being kidnapped and risks his life trying to save her. Arriving in the capital, he understands how easy it is to argue with the musketeers, but above all, how much intrigue and corruption corrode the nobility of France. While the Musketeers are loyal to the king, Cardinal Richelieu is ready to do anything to discredit them and gain more and more power.
With a hefty budget of 70 million euros and a remarkable cast, the film revives the glory of Dumas’ timeless romance with minimal changes to the modern world.
Vincent Cassel, Pio Marmay and Romain Duris perfectly personify the traditional Athos, Porthos and Aramis, albeit with some deviations from the Dumay’s mainstream (today’s Porthos does not shun bisexuality), where the young and exuberant François Civil is the ideal D’Novice Artagnan.
